CELEBRATING OUR CORE VALUES: SEQUOYAH'S 5Oth

50th Anniversary Campaign: Case for Support (4.38MB)

In October 1958, six students stepped into a new kind of school. This past September we began celebrating their adventure and our journey.

Light-pole banners in Pasadena set the stage for a year-long celebration that began with a Harvest Hot Lunch. Sequoyah students prepared lunch for the entire school and guests, featuring vegetables grown on campus and within fifty miles of school. After lunch we square-danced on the Upper, a Sequoyah tradition. Later in the fall the whole school gathered for a 50th portrait. Click on Sequoyah 50th Group Photo (lo-res) or Sequoyah 50th Group Photo (hi-res, 7MB) to see the results.

This past year we began a campaign in honor of Sequoyah’s anniversary. Gifts to this campaign are building the financial foundation to afford purchase of our campus, sustaining our commitment to an inclusive school community, supporting innovative teaching, and providing the means to undertake much needed facility improvements.

Campaign funds are already at work, supporting ongoing professional development for teachers and the establishment a two-year position of Director of Professional Growth. Gardens for Learning and a new parking lot shade structure have been designed, planned and constructed using campaign funds. Future campus projects in planning stages funded through the anniversary campaign include a new perimeter fence, signage and storage. During the year Sequoyah trustees will present resource development goals and you will be receiving campaign materials that outline objectives, report progress and detail how you may participate.

Thank you for your generous and thoughtful giving.

Elena Phleger, Director of Development.
